exploring collective imagination
Weaving the sound of connection—one beat at a time.
What does the heartbeat of a community sound like?
What happens when individual heartbeats merge into a shared rhythm, a collective pulse?

Recently, I completed Heartbeat of the World on the island of Fur in Northern Jutland, Denmark, where I gathered and recorded the intimate heartbeats of islanders and the island itself. The project culminated in Furs Puls, a sound installation exploring the invisible rhythms that connect a community to its place.
Each heartbeat is a unique echo, an invitation to pause and listen. Together, they create a vibrant soundscape of collective identity, vulnerability, and strength. Experiencing one’s own heartbeat, as well as those of others through a small, portable speaker, often results in surprise and emotional connection. Faces light up, and an immediate sense of intimacy emerges as participants listen to their own rhythm and feel connected to the rhythms around them.
These heartbeats came together in site-specific installations, where sound, space, and community intertwined, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the island’s pulse.
Visitors not only heard these heartbeats, but also felt them, together with the sounds islanders shared with me as the heartbeat of Fur.
The finished recording will be uploaded soon, so you can explore, listen, and connect to the heartbeat of Fur.
